Zoo Atlanta | Grant Park Cyclorama Savanna Exhibit
Dates of Service
52,000sf and 4.6 acre habitat
Epsten Group provided Architectural Programming, Conceptual Design, and 3D Animation services for the project, and is currently providing Architecture and Interior Design, LEED Consulting, and Energy Modeling services. The project includes the conversion of the existing Grant Park Cyclorama building into a new mixed-use facility that will include an events facility, catering kitchen, high-end restaurant, and tavern, as well has the new home of Zoo Atlanta’s administrative offices. The Zoo’s existing administration building will then be demolished to make way for a spacious new entry plaza for the Zoo to include a band shell and other amenities for the surrounding neighborhood community. Finally, the existing savanna exhibit will be expanded by approximately 3 acres to create a mixed-savanna with elephants, giraffes, and other hoof stock like zebra and antelopes that will be visible from the new events facility. The expansion will include a new elephant holding building, which like the Cyclorama Building renovation will be pursuing LEED Gold certification.
Epsten Group’s design solution seeks to accomplish three vital goals: 1.) To provide a premiere events facility for the Zoo that will allow the renovation to be leveraged as a game-changing opportunity for Zoo Atlanta, 2.) To provide a renovated savanna exhibit to aid Zoo Atlanta in its ongoing education and conservation missions, and 3.) To help provide an asset to the surrounding Grant Park neighborhood that will make the area around Zoo Atlanta more active and vibrant and help build a stronger and more prosperous local community.
