Zoo Atlanta | Boundless Budgies Exhibit: A Parakeet Adventure
Dates of Service
2008 – 2009
Zoo Atlanta’s Boundless Budgies: A Parakeet Adventure is an interactive children’s exhibit that allows zoo visitors to immerse themselves in the aviary habitat of over 3,000 Australian Parakeets. The 3,155sf exhibit gives zoo-goers the unique opportunity to purchase seed sticks in the project’s entry pavilion and proceed to feed the parakeets in the main aviary space. Constructed of highly durable and washable materials, including a sculpted concrete slab that incorporates a running artificial waterfall and stream, the project was built with the paramount concerns of the safety of the birds and hygiene for visitors. The project also includes a bird holding building at the rear of the aviary that is the home of the parakeets when they are off exhibit and was also designed for the addition of other birds, including flightless species, at a later date.
