AUC | R. W. Woodruff Library Renovation
Dates of Service
2010 – 2015
Epsten Group has performed numerous services for the Atlanta University Center since 2010. Projects completed include:
Comprehensive Facility Audit: Epsten Group conducted a full review for upgrade and repair for the entire facility from structural systems and envelope improvements to electrical conditions. The audit included prioritized recommendations for improvements and repairs including budgetary costs for those recommendations.
Library Phase 1 Renovation: A total redesign of two of the three levels was completed. Epsten Group conducted commissioning for all new and existing systems associated with this 100,000+ sf renovation.
Archive Space Upgrades: Completed in 2013, Epsten Group acted as the architect and commissioning agent for the complete upgrade of three archive spaces totaling more than 5,000 square feet. Originally these spaces were conditioned as if they were typical circulation areas of the library. Our team developed the RFP for the construction manager solicitation that would bring these spaces up to more stringent and long-term archived conditions consistent with Special Collections as defined by the National Archives and Records Administration.
Some of our tasks included:
Design of the necessary wall upgrades including liquid-applied air barrier and blown-in insulation
Site observation of wall improvements and systems installation
Functional testing of the dedicated chiller, dehumidification unit and three (3) air handling units and associated humidifiers
Blower door testing and infrared testing of the three completed archive spaces
HVAC, Controls, Electrical, Fire Alarm, Smoke Evacuation System, Lighting Controls, Domestic Hot Water, and Chiller Optimization
