The Medical Education Building at Emory University consists of a new 5-story building connecting two historic four-story buildings designed by architect Henry Hornbostel. The existing buildings, totaling 50,000 square feet were renovated as part of the project.
Responding to Emory’s concern about nearby streams, Epsten Group acted by limiting the disruption and pollution of natural water flows to manage stormwater runoff. Water efficiency within the building is increased by installing low-flow plumbing fixture and fittings.
No new parking for vehicles was included. Alternative modes of transportation, i.e., public transportation and bicycle, are promoted to reduce pollution and land development impacts form the automobile. The LEED process considers parking and transportation options in the context of the entire Emory campus. This project is LEED Silver certified.
